Racine plumbing sends two people to represent

It took about a week for the fall-out to begin from the village boards decision to end Mt. Pleasants contract with the Real Racine tourism bureau. Executive Director, Dave Blank, announced the cancellation of a Pro-Am beach soccer qualifying tournament citing budget concerns.

It didnt look like the event was going to be a big money-maker for the area, the registrations werent great. However, county residents better start getting used to it, because this is just the beginning for the entire regions tourism strategy.

We like the idea of a convention center or our own visitors bureau right on our campus, DeGroot said. We are very, very early in the process. Ending our contract with Real Racine was a legal step we had to do for us to be able to go through our strategic planning process.

Mt. Pleasant sends two people to represent the village on the Real Racine board - which is right up there with Racine. Area hoteliers also get a seat at the table - and since Mt. Pleasant has the majority of them, they are actually very well represented. Perhaps even over represented - if you are from a smaller community.
