Badger car during the shutdown

Wow...I learned so much last night. This is a reminder for me to that participating and experiencing things is the best way to learn. Long post, but please read it all!A START bus driver called dispatch about a drunk man walking down Pearl Ave. We were literally just around the corner and in the 30 seconds it took us to arrive, he had fallen and smashed his face very badly. He was aspirating and would have died very quickly. The ambulance and fire department were there within 2 minutes and saved his life. A man almost died and it wasnt even 1000 yet.Then came the call from the husband downtown who lost his drunk wife. The entire team was looking for her and she was found near King Street. A woman, all alone, incoherent and vomiting just yards from where a group of people partied outside at a restaurant. She could have died, she could have been abducted...it was a scary situation. SGT. Kellams threw on gloves and rushed to her, held her hair back while she continued to vomit and made sure she was safe. What I saw here was compassion from a husband and a father taking care of this woman, not just a cop. She was is such bad condition that she needed a trip to the ER.Domestic Violence wasnt as high as it was anticipated to be during the shutdown, but it was attributed to the time of year. People were able to get outside and that helped. Why are these ugly things not being talked about more? It is a reality here and we need not live in the clouds.The best part of the night was learning that Ms. Hill she is an African Amercian woman that lived under the bridge near Smiths for years and has mental health issues is doing well! She was able to get on the proper medicine and she is living happily in another county. I think she is even married now. I have always wondered where she went.So, for those of you who dont think we need the PD...go along with them on a slow night. I could carry on and on about all the other things I learned that they do last night. If you want to do a ride along, just call and they will set it up.
