Pastor Dan Boyd delivered an excellent graveside service for Don Kidd on Tuesday, with assistance from the Masonic Lodge. Senator Kidd devoted his time in Carlsbad toward making this a better community, and weve heard so many stories about people he helped.

We would also like to offer our condolences to Lori Aho and all friends and family of Dr. James Aho, who recently passed away. Dr. Aho was an extremely gifted individual with multiple artistic talents. He will be greatly missed.

Eddy County has also been sending out reminders for Election Day. Oct. 6 is the last day to register to vote or to make updates to voter registration. You can do so at www.nmvote.org That is also the first day to vote absentee. Early voting begins on Oct. 17 at 325 S. Man Street in Carlsbad and 602 S. First Street in Artesia. Oct. 20 is the last day absentee ballots will be mailed out and Oct. 31 is the last day for early voting. On Election Day Nov. 3 polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For a complete list of polling locations, please visit the Eddy County Clerks website.

How will community Halloween and fall festival celebrations be held this year? We certainly hope that things will be back to normal by the end of October, but it is always a good idea to plan for every possibility. Local resident Stephanie Williams has put together a Facebook page called Spooktacular Things to See in Carlsbad where people are sharing different ideas to make Halloween fun this year, no matter what else is happening. There are lots of crafting and costume ideas being shared as well, so please check it out.
