We already knew that it was important, but the last 18 months have put into focus why fast and reliable internet access is just as important today as power and water. Below is a map of Johnston County that shows current coverage. There are substantial gaps in our eastern, rural communities and the majority of our county is only serviced by a single provider. The result is that our students, families, and businesses that are located away from our urban cores are disadvantaged and have to travel longer distances to find remote access points.I will fight in Raleigh to bring coverage to 100 of the county, like our neighbors to the west enjoy, and promote competition so that families and businesses have provider choices that will keep prices low and service reliable. We cannot have a community of haves and have nots based on internet coverage and where someone lives -- especially in a time when government could choose to keep people at home and reliant on that internet connection for work or school.
