Springdale travel boating accident in a bay near Stockholm

My Grandma, Ellen Rich, came to this country from Sweden as a young girl. A few months after her father had drowned in a boating accident in a bay near Stockholm, she, her mother, and two of her siblings left Sweden for America. After a month of travel by ship, train, and wagon they arrived in Elk Park, Montana in May 1903.She was married in late 1909, and by 1911, had lost her 3 week old son, who was born in Grey Cliff.In June 1912, her husband, James Petersen filed for a homestead patent on 320 acres near the confluence of West Bridger and Main Bridger Creek in Sweet Grass County. There they began their family and their life on the creek together. The picture above shows Grandma and my two aunts in front of their Bridger Creek home and the partially finished new addition circa. 1917. I imagine Grandma was much anticipating getting to use the new room for her growing family. James was very industrious, in addition to a sawmill there on Bridger Creek, he also had various lots and businesses in Grey Cliff at this time.James proved up on his homestead in November 1918. He and his two brothers had a thriving sawmill business, centered on their adjoining homesteads. Things were looking good for the Petersen families.The Spanish Influenza hit the Bridger Creek area one month later, in December 1918. Within a period of three days, James and his brother Andrew were both dead and Grandma and many others were severely ill from the disease. These were difficult times for the whole community, but especially for the young widow.
