I stood with Gov. McMaster again a couple week in rural Jasper County to announce an even larger investment of private capital that will create even more jobs at a new Exit 3 interchange on Interstate 95 -- distribution centers and other industrial space that the governor acknowledged will speed up the timeline for building the Jasper port.And theres more in the wings. I secured an appropriation in the state budget in 2019 to purchase the Sherwood Tract in Jasper County, a 435-acre piece of land just a few miles from the Jasper port site, now being marketed by the state Department of Commerce as a prime site for the manufacture of cars. Even more private capital investment, even more jobs.Because of the thousands of new jobs that will result from the billions of dollars in new private investment, the Corridor of Shame will become the Corridor of Opportunity -- and thats good news for all of us, for a rising economic tide in our part of the Lowcountry lifts all boats.But my eyes are on an even bigger prize building the Jasper port within the next few years, for these new economic developments make an accelerated timeline very feasible.
