Draper salon contributed to the decrease in cases

I was on a call with County Mayor Jenny Wilson this week and she stated that since Salt Lake County has put a mask mandate into effect, our percentage of the states Covid cases has dropped from 50 to 35. Thats good news, and a trend we want to see continue.

While multiple factors likely contributed to the decrease in cases, we do know that masks make a difference. This article in USA Today explains a case in which two hair stylists, both positive for Covid, transmitted the virus to multiple close personal contacts outside of work, when they didnt wear a mask-but not to 67 of their clients, all of whom wore masks.

New data is also showing that mask wearing helps greatly in reducing viral load, meaning a smaller dose and lower exposure. Wearing a cloth face mask has been proven to screen out 65-85 of viral particles. So even though you may still get exposed, its at a greatly reduced level. This is likely directly connected to the rising number of mild and asymptomatic cases we have been seeing. It helps to explain how even though the virus is spreading and the case count is rising, our death count is exceptionally low.
