El Cajon house program providing contracts to Crisis

Last week, El Cajons City Council received extraordinarily positive news regarding its effort to help reduce homelessness.In a pilot program providing contracts to Crisis House and The Salvation Army, the City has a goal of seeing 25 people who are homeless on the streets of El Cajon get into permanent housing As far as reunification efforts by The Salvation Army, 13 individuals returned out of the area to live with a friend or relative at a cost of just 348 per person. 10 of the 13 are confirmed as still housed after 6 months.The collaboration between East County Homeless Task Force, The Salvation Army, Crisis House, and the City of El Cajon has helped 60 people off the streets of El Cajon.The next step is to appeal to the County for more resources to help those remaining on the streets with more difficult cases to place into housing due to substance abuse or mental health challenges.We are putting on a Free Community event that will include a CrossFit 101, great food, music and much more.
