Brentwood travel commercial areas along or adjacent

The City of Brentwood is currently planning to repave Granny White Pike in late May or June of this year. As part of this project, the City is taking the opportunity to assess the possibility of adding bike lanes along Granny White Pike between Foxland Drive and Brentwood Academy. Given the heavy pedestrian use of the existing sidewalk, the addition of bike lanes would allow cyclists better and safer access to the schools, parks, and commercial areas along or adjacent to this corridor. Note that the addition of bike lanes would be accomplished by adjusting the lane striping within the existing curbs, with no new construction.

Option 1 Provides for 4-foot-wide bike lanes with a 3-foot-wide striped buffer area between the bike lane and the vehicle travel lane. Vehicle travel lanes would be 11 feet wide. This option would eliminate the center turn lane along most of the corridor, but left turn lanes would still be maintained at all intersections. At the intersections where turn lanes are provided, the buffer area would be eliminated, and the bike lanes would be reduced to 3 feet in width.

The City is hosting a community meeting on Thursday, February 20 from 600 800 p.m. in the Annex Room on the second floor of City Hall at 5211 Maryland Way. The meeting will allow interested residents the opportunity to see more details related to each option and provide input on their preferred option. This is an open house style meeting, with no formal presentation at a specific time. Feel free to come whenever it is most convenient for you during this time and talk with city staff and project engineers.
