When my two daughters were in high school, they informed me that I am a jock nerd. What they aptly observed is my passion for physical activity and learning. I am a bonafide book addict. I also love to move my body and regularly do yoga, run, ski, golf, kyack or sail whenever I get a chance. I feel most capable of critical thinking and learning when I exercise regularly. I engage in psychoeducation with the patients I work with on the exceptional benefits of exercise for brain health. Exercise and movement facilitate our management of mood and promote our cognitive functioning.

Full disclosure. I am not the professional female skier pictured, LOL I do however visualize the passion and movement of professional skiers. My family recently came back from a family vacation in Park City, Utah. The joy I feel skiing with people I love is almost wordless. To quote my best friends daughter, Tara, Families that ski together, stay together. Psychology cannot endorse Taras quote with outcome studies that I know of. Perhaps, what I can say is we grow together learning how to skillfully negotiate challenges while balancing our neurotransmitters.

Like in many parts of the world, the health of Palestinian children is determined by critical social and economic factors. But in the case of Palestine, there is the added burden of living under occupation and siege which have exasperated nutritional disorders, mental health crises, accidents, and injuries due to violence. Access to healthcare for children in Palestine is further constrained due to the requirement for visas to travel, by difficulties with ambulance transfers, by shortages of equipment in hospitals, and by lack of trained staff.
