Concord accounting audit to be completed

Concord township is required by its Home Rule charter to have an annual audit completed by an independent Certified Public Accountant. And while the Home Rule Charter provides for a deadline of 9 months after the close of the fiscal year for the audit to be completed, it is curious that the audit for the year having ended 12312020 is now the latest, since records exist back to 2009. The audits have always been completed by Maymid-June at the latest.

At least a decade of unrelenting over-taxation resulted in millions in surpluses, capital projects and budget accounting gimmicks are deployed to cover the over-taxation, such as buying open space next to the sewer plant with sewer funds. Now, the township Finance Director position is changing hands concurrently to a VERY late audit from the CPA firm hired for the last 15 years via a no bid contract. This same firm gives political donations to the campaigns of the council members, who then appoint this same firm to perform the audit all makes us ask Are the townships accounting practices in order?

When elected, we will stop the political handout policy of the current council by creating a review and bid policy for all professionals attorneys, CPA, engineers, sewer experts, etc. that the township hires. Taxpayers deserve the accountability, quality of services and transparency such policies create.
