Best from Kenai: We decided to do what the locals do and travel down the Kenai Peninsula.
The road travels along the Turnagain arm, which is famous for its bore tide twice a day.
These tides, which can be as high as 10 feet, attract local surfers.
If you'd like to learn more about the bore tide, I'll put a link to the website that this one surfer has, and yes, he offers lessons and has equipment that you're interested. We are halfway through our Alaska journey. We burned through a lot of diesel fuel over the last fifty five hundred miles. We've stayed at a variety of campgrounds and the in key on my laptop doesn't work anymore. I figure this is a good time to share with you the costs of the fuel and campgrounds to date and some of the excursions we've done as well as share the best of the Kenai Peninsula that we've seen over the last week. First, a few words about fuel and specifically diesel. Where US Forest Service or State Parks campgrounds are located, we find them generally very enjoyable. They usually don't have a shower, although there are some in Canada, I know I will say some in British Columbia. Campgrounds in the Yukon are a little more primitive, but they're pretty good. Like this one that we saw at the exit from the glacier at 19:00. We were the third car to park at this location, but in the morning it was full, including two motorcyclists. We knew there was nothing to write about private camper parks in Alaska and Canada, and this is pretty much the case we are facing. They are never our first choice, but when you need a shower, when you need to do your laundry, when you need to empty tanks and the like, we will definitely choose one of them, one of the RV parks and they are usually double what we pay in the state or in Russia. Forest Service Camping. One thing we learned is that in a private camper park, you want to ask if they have dry spots and if they have completely dry spots, maybe they have a tent spot. It allows you to park your RV, and sometimes the tent sites have maybe only 110 connections, no water or something, but it gives you access to showers and all other amenities. We found this park in Homer. They had six dry spots and were completely dry, but the view was lovely and the facilities were really good.
