Antioch travel would start a job at another newspaper in Parkersburg

Ruth was born in West Virginia and grew up with 7 other brothers and sisters. She became interested in journalism and soon enrolled at Marshall University. After graduating, she got a job in Huntington, West Virginia as a journalist where she would later meet her husband. After having children, Ruth found it difficult to stay at her job since her hours were so varied. She soon left her job to go back to school to get her teaching certificate and became an elementary school teacher.

Bill was born in Chicago and later moved onto an 80 acre farm in Vermont during the great depression. Bill, just like his father, expressed a joy in writing and editing. He enrolled at Antioch College in 1947 and studied political science. Once graduating, he began Co-Op work in newspapers such as the Toledo Blade and Plain Dealer. Bill then enlisted in the Army for two years with the counterintelligence group and traveled to most of Europe. Upon return, he would start a job at another newspaper in Parkersburg, West Virginia then another in Huntington, where he met Ruth.

The couple has been married now for 61 years. Together they have two children and four grandchildren. In their spare time, Ruth enjoys crosswords and reading. Bill sits on the OLP advisory and food committees. He is also an avid bridge player.
