I grew up on the Old River Road in Fisher, WV. I have very fond memories of those days. There was always so much to do, and the world seemed full of possibilities. I spent my childhood days fishing and canoeing on the South Branch River, riding my four-wheeler on the gravel roads around our community, and a myriad of other things an adventurous boy could find himself to do in those days.

My parents taught me the value of hard work at a very early age. For example, my parents owned a campground, which today is known as Riverside Cabins and RV Park. This campground was founded by my grandfather and great-grandfather, and was taken over by my parents when I was very young.

My parents expected me to do my part to help in the family business. I can remember many summer days spent weed eating, clearing brush, and completing other required chores around the campground. I have never regretted that, because it taught me the value of hard work, and helped produce in me a sense of discipline that has served me well to this day.

Today, I am very proud that I am able to raise my own two sons in Hardy County. I believe it is still a wonderful place to live, and that there is great future potential here as well. However, I believe we, as community leaders, are responsible for making decisions today that will lead to our future success, and that we need to be careful to make wise decisions so that future generations will also be able to enjoy the fruits of liberty.
