I have the privilege of serving as the president of the Hartford Foundation for the public, giving I am in my eighth month of an organization that has been in this community for 93 years and you know nothing has been more exciting than the opportunity to Get to travel across the entirety of the region, each of our 29 communities and engage in a series of discussions and conversations and, most importantly, listening as we reintroduce the foundation to the entirety of the community.
We have been in this community for now 93 years, and I've got a deep and abiding relationship with our nonprofit partners that work in all 29 of our communities and just to give you an example of some of the investments that we have made here in East Hartford, the Historical Society of East Hartford, the Friends of Center Cemetery, erase incorporated the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology; first choice: health, centers, Goodwin, College,
East Hartford, Public Schools, just to name a few, and this. These partnerships are facilitated through our nonprofit organizations, community stakeholders and also the staff of the foundation, and I would ask the staff of the foundation if you all would just stand up briefly and sort of wave your hand.
So we can see some of our staff members here I have said - and I say it very proudly - that while the financial resources that we've been blessed with through the generosity of people from across the region and families across the region, that's our most important tool.
Sarah Sneed leads our K through 12, along with Jacqueline Colman. Many of you know them through the educational investments, our scholarship investments with Jennifer Holmes. So you know we want to make sure that we are coming here really taking have a discussion with you about the issues that are facing East Hartford, and this doesn't work.
If I'm the only one talking so you know, this is really about us listening and capturing I walked in a few minutes ago, and there was a lot of it's gaygent and discussion.
Some of you have known over the course of the time I've been here. Others I've just met this afternoon, but we really want and need this to be a discussion, because not only is it valuable for us making sure that we're in tune with the issues of today that are relevant in East Hartford.
That would really help advance the community that is East Hartford. So that being the case, I want to open up this discussion and you know I'll. Take volunteers to start off and if they're, not volunteers, I'll take whoever makes eye contact with me.
You know they're educators, here they're teachers here, and I know you put this up on your students, so you know maybe I'll start with the educators first, but really, you know give some thought to what are the things that make East Hartford a special community.
