In 1957, the Supreme Court ordered integration of all US schools.
Here at Central High nine African American students, known as the Little Rock Nine, were chosen to integrate to the school.
The nine were met by thousands of angry protestors who blocked their entrance to the school, and the National Guard was later called in to help the students safely attend classes.
