Grand Junction Fishing suppose he would be considered autistic or developmentally

A few months ago the obituary of Bob Hawkins ran in the Enterprise. I had to smile to myself at the thought of Bob and his family.I first met Bob about 45 years ago while my Uncle Lloyd and I were building houses on the North side hill in Livingston.

Back then, Bob was considered slow now, I suppose he would be considered autistic or developmentally disabled. He would wander up the hill towards the fish while the rest of us worked. He would almost always come back down about coffee time with a few fossils of leaves or snails that he had found in his wanderings that morning.

I can tell you, that search as I might, I never found a single fossil of anything on that hill. Bob had a gift for spotting them and the patience to keep looking!One day Bob came back as just we sat down to coffee and Uncle Lloyd, feeling his age, exclaimed to him Oh Bob! Im just not much good any more! From that day on, without fail, and for years afterwards, every time Bob greeted Uncle Lloyd hed say Well Lloyd! You just arent much good anymore, are you Lloyd? I smile every time I think of it!
