At around 0530 hrs, the bear came down from the tree and fled across Notre Dame Blvd. Fish and Wildlife Officers followed the bear east through a large field and eventually over Bruce Road. The bear continued east through the field and out of sight. There were no injuries to people or the bear.
The Chico Police Department would like to remind citizens that if they spot a bear to not approach or aggravate it. Call 911 immediately and tell the dispatcher where you are and the last direction of travel of the bear. Officers will respond immediately to handle the situation.
Officers at scene summoned help from the California Department of Fish Wildlife shortly after arrival. Within 30 minutes, three California Fish Wildlife Officers arrived to assist. They took over the scene about 20 minutes later. The bear remained in the tree for several hours.
