Albany plumbing turned to corruption for far too long.

The News endorses Mr. Siderakis as the best candidate in the Second Senate District. He is far and away a better candidate than Mr. Mattera and we urge voters to make him their choice at the polls November 3.

Mr. Mattera is a long-time business agent of a union, Plumbers Local 200 of the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, which came under a cloud of indictments last week for corruption. Mr. Mattera is not named in the indictment, but his co-equal in the union, Arthur Gibson, was. The investigation of the union is open and ongoing according to an indictment that charges the 11 defendants with racketeering, fraud, and conspiracy to violate the Taft-Hartley Act.

Nonetheless, this is a disconcerting situation and until the case is fully vetted and resolved it should raise serious concerns about voting for Mr. Mattera. There is a criminal cloud swirling around him. Who needs more of that in Albany, where a blind eye has been turned to corruption for far too long.
